To say that the last 3 weeks have been challenging is an understatement. Some of you may have known Jeff was in the hospital for a week. What most of you do not know is that my family was involved in a very serious Hit and run accident 2.5 hrs away from our home on the very morning of our first Online workshop. Jeff was an Awesome trooper having to pivot and teach some content that I had been in charge of teaching solely. Talk about having to change quickly!
It is the call no mother wants to get. We were in a Serious car accident, I need you to come here. I drove the 2.5 hrs to Wilmington NC and hoped and prayed that my family that had to be transported via ambulance, would be OK. it sounded like they were just getting checked out. Lots of prayers went up!
About 10 min before I was to arrive I got a call from my husband that my oldest daughters Ct scan came back and it was not good. There were internal injuries to her abdomen and they were going to have to do an emergency surgery and they were just waiting till I got there. This mama was scared, broken and devastated and no one would tell me why she needed surgery!
Now looking back my husband was trying to prevent me from being rash and also getting in a crash due to elevated hysteria. Not so sure it worked, but I got there and looked at the scans and knew we were in for a battle.
I posted a simple phrase on my personal FB page. I said "We need an army! We need prayers for Abigail!. What I was met with for the longest 3 hours of my life was prayers, support, msg, and lots and lots of people surrounding us. I couldn't completely fall apart because my other daughter also had injuries non life threatening), but she also needed her mama.
When the surgeon came out and told us he was able to find the injury and repair it with a lot less damage than he was expecting we were relieved. We spend 6 days in the hospital 4 in the PICU.
Her recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. We weren't really aware of how close she came to not being here anymore until after we were discharged and met with follow up DRs here where we live. Apparently this injury is rarely found and patients die in their sleep. So we are very thankful for an amazing surgeon and that he didn't stop looking until he found it and fixed it. His gut instinct must have been on overdrive that day.
Drs, Nurses, therapist all surrounded us at a time when we needed them. They went above and beyond. Each shift they were amazed at how fast she was progressing.
Let me just tell you how hard it was to be away from 2 full time business and home. Playing catch up has been an understatement. I am thankful for understanding business owners who texted, send messages and encouraged us to take care of family first.
I got home and then Jeff went to the hospital! We had a few rough weeks between the 2 of us, But we are back at it! If I didn't get to hang out with you at the workshop I am so sorry! The next one is coming up soon and I am beyond excited to meet those who are attending!
